Duct Testing in Ft. Worth, TX by Cool Tech Mechanical
For most home maintenance jobs, it is easy for you to tell when you need work done: wood rot occurring on a patio, excessively dirty carpets, an electrical system that keeps failing when you plug in a new appliance, etc. But with the ventilation system that serves to distribute conditioned air throughout your home, the situation is a bit trickier. You don’t see most of the ductwork that makes up the ventilation system, so it is not easy to know if it has sustained damage or started to decay. How will you know if the ductwork needs repairs?
This is where duct testing comes in handy. If you have suspicions that your ducts are suffering from air leaks, or if you simply want a routine check, duct testing from professionals like those at Cool Tech Mechanical will be able to tell the state of the integrity of your ventilation system in your home in Ft. Worth, TX. Our experts can give you a detailed rundown on what work you need done (if any) to restore your ducts to their best possible condition and to prevent an increase in heating and cooling bills combined with a drop in indoor air quality.
The ductwork specialists at Cool Tech Mechanical offer duct testing services in Ft. Worth, TX and the surrounding areas.
When Should I Schedule Duct Testing?
There are two times when duct testing is recommended. The first is when you notice indications that the ventilation system is not working the way it should. Some of these warning signs are small: a slight decrease in airflow, uneven heating or cooling in rooms, a rise in energy bills. Although a number of different causes could be behind any of these problems, it is wise to schedule duct testing and to see if repairs to the ventilation system will help. Whatever the issue, the HVAC technicians will get to the bottom of it.
The other time to arrange for duct testing is as a routine maintenance check every few years. Even if you haven’t noticed signs of duct trouble, a regular check–up on the system will catch any air leaks early and help you head off larger problems. Call our specialists to find out about scheduling duct testing on a regular basis.
What to Expect During Duct Testing
Duct testing requires special equipment that places the whole ventilation system under high pressure. The professional testers first seal off all the registers into the rooms so no air can escape from the ductwork except through holes or gaps. They then attach a power vacuum system onto the point where the ductwork exits the heating and cooling system cabinet. The vacuum increases the air pressure inside the ductwork, and a gauge monitors the pressure level. If the pressure begins to drop, and drop rapidly, the testers will know that the ductwork’s integrity has been compromised and they must look for air leaks and seal them.
